As part of its 25th anniversary, leading DMC representation company destinations UNLIMITED is marking the occasion with a series of activities, events and news, the latest of which on the eve of its 25th anniversary celebration is 25 little known facts about the organisation.
Nikki Mitchell, Managing Partner of destinations UNLIMITED, comments: “A lot has happened in the industry over the last 25 years. But destinations UNLIMITED continues to grow, adding new DMCS to our portfolio, providing clients of all sizes with a first class representation service. We thought it would be fun to share some of our history and interesting facts and figures to mark our 25th anniversary.”
1. Established in 1989, destinations UNLIMITED was the first DMC representation company of its kind. 2. The company was set up by David & Maria Buse. Alan Davies and Nikki (Buse) Mitchell joined shortly after. A few years down the line, Darren Mitchell and Natalie Buse, joined the team. destination’s UNLIMITED is still a family owned and managed business with Nikki at the helm. 3. Nikki Mitchell has been with destinations 23 years starting on a Youth Training Scheme after she left college. 4. The team behind destinations UNLIMITED has a combined total of 53 years experience in the MICE industry. 5. Its first DMC Partners were ITB DMC Spain and ITC in Rome who are both still a part of the DMC Portfolio. 6. It was Ignacio Brea of ITB DMC in Spain, who suggested the idea of representation to David Buse, which led to the beginning of destinations UNLIMITED. 7. destinations UNLIMITED started with just 5 DMCs and this has now grown to 45 DMC partners around the world, from Dominican Republic to Australia, Italy to Brazil and beyond. 8. The latest DMC Partner to join destinations UNLIMITED was RUSMICE in Russia. 9. The majority of destinations UNLIMITED’s DMCs have been with them for 15 years or more. 10. The longest running partner that destinations UNLIMITED works with is Egypt Incentives and Events – established in 1949. 11. All destinations UNLIMITED DMC partner DMCs must be established for at least five years before signing to the destinations UNLIMITED portfolio – 98% have been established for 10 years or longer. 12. destinations UNLIMITED has 28 partners in Europe. 13. There are five partners in the USA; Incentive Travel & Meeting, NXTevent, Agentours, Manhattan Passport and Capitol Services Inc (CSI). 14. The largest event organised by one of its DMC partners was for 28,000 people. 15. The furthest partner is 10,576 miles away from destinations UNLIMITED’s head office in Ringwood, Hampshire. 16. All DMCs have to comply with the destinations UNLIMITED research and assessment procedure, in addition to client satisfaction, financial stability and liability insurance as well as letters from the DMCs bank which are collated annually. 17. destinations UNLIMITED DMCs organised a combined total of 6,158 events in 2013. 18. 90% of destinations UNLIMITED DMCs are members of professional and recognised associations. 19. One of destinations UNLIMITED’s oldest customers is Gerry York of FMI, – who David Buse believes is 92! 20. destinations UNLIMITED was a founding member of the ITMA (now Evcom) 21. Each year destinations UNLIMITED receives more than 2,000 enquiries 22. destinations UNLIMITED were the first UK Representation company to have a website and an email address. www was considered at the time by many as a gimmick that wouldn’t last! 23. The most unusual request destinations UNLIMTED has ever received was to arrange for a group of ladies (of the night!) to be included within an itinerary – the RFP was politely declined. 24. destinations UNLIMITED is considered by many as a “one stop shop” for global events. 25. destinations UNLIMITED has won awards for the best DMC category with C&IT Magazine two years in a row.
