ABPCO fam trip aims to boost Glasgow conference business

The Glasgow City Marketing Bureau is benefitting from its membership of the Association of British Professional Conference Organisers (ABPCO) after a recent fam trip to the city.

ABPCO organised for a selection of its PCO members to visit academic venues in the city whilst learning more about the in-depth free support available from the team at Glasgow City Marketing Bureau.

Jennifer Jenkins, current chair of ABPCO, said: “The Glasgow City Marketing Bureau has long been a sponsor of ABPCO and supporters of the association. It was important for us to show our members who specialise in organising association events that Glasgow is a leading presence when it comes to conferences.”

The timing of the visit was linked to a behind-the-scenes pre-venue opening of the Technology Innovation Centre at the University of Strathclyde, which was of particular interest to a number of the attendees who are actively working with the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau to bring events to the city.

“Our fam trip to Glasgow gave us the opportunity to visit the Technology and Innovation Centre amongst other fantastic venues in the city,” said Clare Beach, managing director of Azura Events. “We are currently organising the British Society for Gene & Cell Therapy Annual Conference, Public Engagement Day and several satellite meetings for June 2015. We are confident that the city will prove to be an excellent host for our events which will bring together the very best professionals from the field.”

Venues visited during the fam trip included the University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde and the Glasgow Caledonian University whilst the Radisson Blu was the host hotel for the highly successful trip.

“The fam trip was a wonderful opportunity to meet with key PCO’s,” comments Aileen Crawford, Head of Convention Bureau at Glasgow City Marketing Bureau. “We have already been working with some of the attendees so the chance to spend additional time with them discussing everything Glasgow has to offer was a fantastic opportunity. This fam trip gave the PCOs a real insight into the prospective venues they could utilise in the heart of this magnificent city.”

ABPCO is the UK’s leading organisation for professional conference and event organisers, industry associates and those studying for, or seeking a career in the conference and meetings industry. For more information about ABPCO visit www.abpco.org
