Building on the recent unveiling of its a $176 million expansion, the Cairns Convention Centre will be offering virtual reality (VR) flythrough tours of its new facilities at IMEX Las Vegas on stand E1204, this week (17-19 October).
The recent refurbishment and expansion of the Cairns Convention Centre, with a $176 million investment from the Queensland Government, has set a new benchmark for international and domestic conferences and events. Nestled in the heart of tropical North Queensland, the Centre now stands as a testament to the region's natural beauty and eco-tourism allure.
The expansion project, led by ASM Global (Asia Pacific) and Cox Architecture, has added 10,500 sqm of meeting, banquet, and exhibition space. The new facilities include an expansive exhibition area accommodating, a 450-seat lecture space, three versatile meeting rooms, a 500-capacity banquet space, an outdoor terrace, and a spacious lobby for pre-event functions. The Trinity Room and Terrace level, offering breath-taking views over Trinity Inlet, is a highlight of the expansion.
“We want to showcase our Centre in person to as many clients as possible, but that is not always possible. The interactive virtual tours allow clients to become immersed in the spaces within the Centre by using headsets or jumping onto our website. The virtual tours at IMEX Las Vegas will allow event professionals and planners to explore the state-of-the-art facility, showcasing its contemporary design, seamless event delivery systems, and the incorporation of Cairns' lush tropical rainforest into the Centre’s spaces,” said Janet Hamilton, General Manager of Cairns Convention Centre, who will be at the Las Vegas show to take organisers on the virtual tour.”
"We are already receiving positive reactions to the new spaces, with clients impressed with the contemporary design and light-filled areas that feature our lush, tropical rainforest in the background. We sit at the heart of one of the world’s most beautiful destinations, and great care and consideration was taken to bring the natural environment into the Centre’s spaces."
The virtual tours were made possible by the support of Tourism Australia via its Business Events Advance Program which partners with industry on activity that aims to increase the number and value of international business events for Australia.
“We are grateful for the support from Tourism Australia on this project, and we look forward to providing more opportunities to showcase Australian business events opportunities and bring more events and delegates to Cairns” added Hamilton.
