General Synod makes history at Church House Conference Centre

The General Synod’s formal adoption of legislation which will lead to the first female bishops was broadcast around the world from Church House Conference Centre.

More than 2,000 web streams of live video content were delivered as people from around the world watched the law-making body of the Church of England vote on the amendment. Footage from the event was also broadcast around Church House.

The General Synod is one of the many organisations which take advantage of Church House’s state-of-the-art AV and internet services, which include live web streaming, video on demand (VOD) using high definition (HD) broadcast quality cameras, a Tricaster vision mixer, IPTV system for internal distribution and a 100Mbps broadband line.

Church House Conference Centre’s AV Manager Ian Locke says: “Over the past 12 months, Church House has made significant investment which allows us to provide a full AV service for our clients. By broadcasting events, it increases the audience reach to a global scale and provides clients with a significant return on investment. In one of the key debates by the General Synod concerning women bishops, more than 20,000 people watched online from locations all around the world.

“Technology is playing an increasing role in event production and there are a wide variety of options available. By using the systems we have in place at Church House it helps clients engage delegates and make the day more interactive. We’ve seen an increase in the number of clients choosing Church House as a venue based on the facilities we offer. This is the fourth time we have provided a live broadcast of the General Synod meeting and we look forward to showing other clients how it can benefit their events in future.”
