The Barbican will serve as the host venue for this year’s popular In Motion festival, an industry-leading event organised by Playgrounds, a platform that showcases and celebrates the creative image such as illustration, animation, film, games, digital design, and art.
The two-day festival, set to take place on October 10-11, 2024, is expected to draw 1,000 plus attendees each day.
This year’s festival will bring together trailblazing artists in animation, motion design and liquid cutting-edge creativity to showcase insight into the creative processes of some of the best creators working in the digital arts today. The festival will be primarily hosted in the Barbican Hall, with additional activities across the venue’s foyers.
Playgrounds chose the Barbican for its world class production capabilities, and the Centre’s position as London’s creative catalyst, making it the perfect venue to showcase the innovation driving today’s entertainment industry.
“We are delighted to bring In Motion to the Barbican, a venue that not only offers exceptional production capabilities but also truly understands the importance of supporting and showcasing the people behind the magic,” says Leon van Rooij from Playgrounds. “We’re really looking forward to working with the Barbican’s events team and delivering something spectacular for our diverse audience.”
This year’s programme boasts a stellar line-up of industry legends, including renowned animators, TV creators, artists, and filmmakers. Attendees will be able to experience talks with Dougal Wilson, famed for the iconic John Lewis Christmas adverts, and David Wilson, a music video extraordinaire. The festival will also feature an industry garden, networking events, and an exciting after-party.
The Barbican’s successful bid to host the festival marks a significant win for the venue, having first pitched to host the event in 2022. Playgrounds, based in the Netherlands, has chosen to bring In Motion back to London, recognising the Barbican as the ideal setting for such a vibrant and creative gathering.
“We are incredibly proud to be selected as host for In Motion, a festival that aligns perfectly with our mission to support and celebrate the creative industries. The opportunity to collaborate with Playgrounds and bring such an innovative event to life in our space is a true testament to our capabilities and commitment to creating memorable experiences for our audiences,” comments Glenn Mainwaring, Business Development Manager at Barbican.
