Magenta Security achieves Carbon Zero status three years ahead of schedule

Leading environmentally friendly security provider, Magenta Security, has been certified as achieving Carbon Zero status, without the need to offset, during a Carbon Footprint Assessment.

The Magenta Security team set themselves a goal to be Carbon Zero, without offsetting, by 2025. However, this month’s carbon audit has shown that improvements made to their working practices have led them to achieve their goal this year – three years ahead of schedule.

The report went on to demonstrate that Magenta is not only achieving their Scope 1 emission targets (fuel and company vehicles) but also its Scope 2 (purchased electricity and heat). Magenta is already ahead of 2025 and 2030 goals in terms of measurement and reduction of Scope 1 and Scope 2, leaving just its Scope 3 targets to be achieved. Scope 3 cover external suppliers, purchased goods and services, employee commuting etc. Magenta has already started the journey to achieve Scope 3, which it is committed to achieving by 2025.

Magenta Security has demonstrated CSR best practice, with a strong focus on green issues since it was first established more than 25 years ago. This certification, which measured Magenta’s carbon footprint over the course of a year (from June 2021 to May 2022), clearly demonstrates that Magenta actually goes beyond being carbon neutral. Through a school age programme, educating children on the benefits of planting trees, a further 5 tonnes of carbon are being offset by Magenta.

These offsetting measures are in addition to Magenta’s ongoing environmentally positive practices, which have ultimately led to their Carbon Zero, without offsetting, status. They include a wealth of enhancements to their offices – such as solar power, a strong adherence to the reduce, reuse, recycle mantra and more recently a switch from hybrid to 100% electric vehicles (which are powered from the solar panels at head office).

“This is great news for the whole Magenta team and a clear demonstration of all the work we have put in over many years, during which we have led the security industry towards a more environmentally friendly future,” commented Abbey Petkar, managing director of Magenta Security. “Since I first set up the company more than 25 years ago, I have placed CSR at the heart of everything we do – whether it is ensuring the best possible working conditions; charitable work around the world; or looking after the planet; I have always wanted our business to give back wherever possible. The fact we are Carbon Zero, without offsetting, is something I am incredibly proud of and I want to recognise the hard work of the team around me in achieving this so far ahead of our original timeline.”
