Ottawa and The Hague Celebrate Five Years of Partnership alongside buyers at IMEX America

Ottawa Tourism and The Hague Convention Bureau marked a milestone this week at IMEX America. The two convention bureaux brought delegates together for a celebratory breakfast to honour five years of successful partnership.  The breakfast was attended by more than 25 buyers from international associations and corporates as well as both the CVBs and their respective convention centres.

In 2019, Ottawa and The Hague joined forces in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) born out of shared visions and offerings between the two cities. Seeking to drive mutual growth and attract more large-scale business events to both destinations, the cities collaborated on:

  • Joint sales activity through a variety of channels, including live industry events.

  • Creation of joint research and intelligence focused on mutually relevant sectors.

  • Identification of new clients where both cities would be of interest.

  • Identification and introduction to historic clients of either city that would interest the other.

“We are proud to celebrate five years of rewarding collaboration with The Hague,” said Lesley Pincombe, Vice President, Business & Major Events at Ottawa Tourism. “Our shared interest in innovation and a focus on the benefits that can be achieved through a true partnership have made this initiative a real success.  It’s been an exciting journey watching our two cities grow and learn together – especially through the pandemic where we really supported each other and were able to share best practice.”

Bas Schot, Head of The Hague Convention Bureau shares similar sentiments: “I believe we’re an excellent example of international cooperation and hopefully we’re setting a precedent for others. Our collaboration with Ottawa has been a catalyst for many successes, including the creation of the Hybrid City Alliance, which went on to include over 25 cities and won the ICCA Best Marketing Award.”

Attending AMC, Emma Jane Taylor from Dot The Eye said: “It was a pleasure to be hosted by two destinations that are working in such an effective partnership. Both are incredible in their own right, however the synergy and opportunities that exist through their work together is invaluable to AMC’s such as myself.”

In addition to Ottawa Tourism and The Hague Convention Bureau, the breakfast event was attended by team members from The Shaw Centre, Ottawa and World Forum, Hague.

Visitors at IMEX America are encouraged to visit Ottawa Tourism’ and The Hague’s stands to explore the cities’ offerings.
