Please someone, talk to me!

At last – after three days I am finally leaving the city and heading back to the Cotswolds .  I have just spent three days at World Travel Market, a vibrant, busy, huge trade show held each year at Excel in London.  Whilst I am a fan of the city and thoroughly enjoy working and spending time there, the show has been plagued by transport problems this year, making it a nightmare.

As for the rather lonely sounding title to this post, it refers to a common complaint I have at trade shows – the number of bored looking stand staff who can’t be bothered to talk to visitors.  The meetings I had planned in advance were great.  But every now and then I would stop by a stand that looked good or offered something that inspired me and the effort was like drawing blood from a stone .

Exhibitions are so much more than just a few days out of the office.  If exhibitors really want to get something out of a show they need to plan in advance, consider some pre-show PR to drive visitors to their stand – and they should certainly consider some stand staff training!
