Welsh Restaurants named in UK Top 100

Two leading restaurants in South East Wales have been named in the top 100 at the National Restaurant Awards in London.

The Walnut Tree, Abergavenny, came 14th overall and The Hardwick, also in Abergavenny, came 54th on the coveted list.

The awards, now in their seventh year, marks the largest gathering of top chefs and restaurateurs in Britain with 150 industry professionals made up of chefs, restaurateurs, food critics and other food experts.

The Walnut Tree’s Head Chef Shaun Hill commented: “All of us are happy and relieved to retain the best in Wales accolade this year. The competition gets harder each time as the area supports an ever increasing number of top restaurants and an ever more discerning range of customers who eat in them.”

Nicola Edwards, Food & Tourism Strategic Manager for Monmouthshire County Council commented: “These rankings are a great achievement for the restaurants, who consistently appear in ‘best of’ lists from a wide variety of outlets. That these are the only two Welsh restaurants to make the list reflects well on Monmouthshire’s position as the Food Capital of Wales, with fantastic quality across the county from producers to restaurants”

The Walnut Tree was also named as The Best Restaurant in Wales by industry insiders, proving to be one of the top restaurants in the UK to dine at outside of London. With two South Wales Restaurants in the top 100 the awards have further cemented the regions reputation of world class and authentic cuisine.
